Ways to Extend Your Range
Use eco driving mode
Eco/normal mode softens throttle response and reduces unnecessary energy use; hard acceleration drains range quickly.
Keep your speed down
Aerodynamic drag scales with the square of speed — driving 100 instead of 120 km/h can extend highway range by 10-20%.
Use climate control smartly
Cabin heating/cooling can be a major share of consumption; seat/steering-wheel heaters use far less energy than full HVAC.
Make good use of regenerative braking
One-pedal driving recovers part of your braking energy back into the battery; favor anticipatory driving over hard braking.
Shed unnecessary weight
Extra load in the trunk or on the roof increases consumption, especially in city driving; roof boxes also hurt aerodynamics.
Plan your route and charging stops
Routes with large elevation change or strong headwinds increase consumption; use your navigation system’s charging-stop suggestions.
Check tire pressure regularly
Tire pressure below the manufacturer’s recommendation increases rolling resistance and noticeably reduces range.
Keep the software up to date
Manufacturers periodically release battery-management and efficiency updates; keep your vehicle software current.
Tips for Faster Charging
Precondition the battery before DC fast charging
Most modern EVs automatically warm the battery when a DC charger is set as a navigation destination; skipping this in cold weather can seriously slow charging.
Stay in the 20-80% range
DC fast-charging power drops noticeably past 80% (to protect the battery); on a road trip, charging to 80% and moving on is usually faster than charging to full.
Don't force DC charging in extreme heat or cold
When the battery is very cold or very hot, the BMS (battery management system) limits charging power for safety; charge in a covered or shaded spot when possible.
Do your daily charging at home on AC
Overnight AC charging at home is the cheapest, most practical method and puts the least stress on the battery; save DC fast charging for road trips.
Take advantage of off-peak hours
If you have a time-of-use (night/day/peak) tariff, scheduling charging for overnight hours can significantly cut your cost.
There's no need for a charger more powerful than your car supports
Using a charger rated above your vehicle’s maximum AC/DC acceptance rate will not speed up charging — the limiting factor is always the car’s own hardware.
